Orthodontics
When you hear “orthodontist” you most likely think of braces and teenagers. Orthodontics is actually the techniques used to correct jaw malformations. It can also be used to modify facial growth in young children. Several techniques are used including traditional braces as well as removable outer appliances, such as headgear and expansion appliances.
Orthodontics is a useful technique to correct malocclusion, or overcrowding of the teeth. Our doctor will most likely do several tooth extractions and then realign the teeth using braces.
Teenagers and children are not the only ones who can benefit from orthodontic procedures. Adults who wore braces as young teenagers may find that their teeth and jaws have shifted over time. Braces are not limited to the metal brackets and wires of our youth. We now have the aesthetically pleasing ceramic material and Invisalign.
Orthodontics does not stop once your braces are removed! Retainers whether permanent or temporary are made to keep your teeth aligned and your bite even.
